Superbowled
I packed my laptop lazily after the hacking exposed class on Superbowl XL sunday. As I walked out, I realized I was the last person to leave apart from profs. A perfunctory smile bid good bye to them for a couple of weeks.I like the view from Hamburg Hall, when you can see the Morewood Garden parking lot. It was amazingly empty, expectedly so. The wind was bringing snow flakes onto my face like moths scrambling onto light. I rushed to the closed comforts of INI. Somehow, I felt really irritated after class; B had pissed me off with one of his comments, M was taking my ass through the class, GS behaved nastily to a joke (GD had got his password) and on top of it I had to walk back alone. I was planning to drop going to E's place for the match.
As soon as I seated myself in the chair, the phone buzzed. Crap! Getting up again, I answered the call. Lady Z (dont ask me who) would pick me up from the INI in ten minutes, stop by some of her friend's place for a minute and we would drive to E's place for the match.
Getting up, I gulped down the bottle of water and walked to the pool table. It was still snowing, a lot more now. 20 minutes later Z messaged she was moving out now. What? What was she doing uptil now? In the bathroom. My foot ! Dont these ladies ever understand how to be on time?
5 minutes into the snow, I got a call from Z saying she was stuck in a jam. Crap! Anyways, I decided to go uptil Fifth and Neville. I stood there for a couple of minutes looking at the USPS post box. Someone honked. It was her, after 3 months and 27 days, back in her car. I jumped into the front seat avoiding eye contact.
"Hmm..you seem to have grown some hair!".
What the heck? Now would I be reminded again and again that I did not cut my hair for it was fucking expensive to do so here. Anyways, was it the only thing that mattered at that moment? I guess I was a fool too, never let a lady control the conversation else you would end up discussing how many guys are after her!
"Can we make a stop at Mr. P's place for a moment? You know I have not seen him for long."
Now this was too much. Mr. P was not a person I would get along too well, and as I should have guesses, Z had already called P. Anyways, I decided not to let my feelings dominate at the moment.
Mr. P, after some cold handshakes, asked P to assist her to the gas station for some cigs. Now this was too much, I was not going to go. But as you might have guessed, I did walk in the snow behind both of them. It was the most useless walk of my life.
After about 20 minutes, we finally got back into the car. Now CAN WE GET OUR ASS MOVING FROM THIS PLACE? Yeah, sure we did, only to Morewood Gardens again to pick up another person. Ok. 10...9...8...7...Shit man, what am I doing here?
Dropping that person off, we finally got down to business. Z parked outside my apartment, I went up, grabbed some beer and put on the stinking socks again. Just as I did so, I remembered something important I had kept for Z. It was a birthday present I wanted to give her, before God knows what went wrong. It was with me for over three months now and I carried it all the way from INI in my bag today." Hmm..things cant get worse than they have today", I wondered. Give it and get rid of it.
As I walked back, I saw her ready with a cig. Not here honey. Getting in, I gave her the thing. Some "Wow, how nice" kind of things later, I was relieved nothing much had happened. Finally, we reversed to go to E's place.
"Coffee? I really want to have some."
As is the unpredictibility of Pittsburgh's weather, so is the case with needs of a girl. No reason would be seen, no argument heard. And as you would have guessed, I obliged.
After getting down at Walnut, we walked to some coffee house. I was waiting to grab my quota of hard drinks and meat later that night, so the coffee did not touch my lips. Some crapish sentences spoken and finally wisdom dawned on her.
" Shall we leave?"
I jumped out of the couch and got to the car in no time. In a minute we were at E's place. I grabbed a big glass of Captain's rum and coke in the first 10 minutes. Aaaaahhh!!! Fealt like heaven when it hit my stomach. I seated myself on a beach chair, nearest to the bar and right infront of the chair. Finally, things looked settled.
And later, Pittsburgh made history after 26 years again.
